Mondrian Motion

چکیده
In this paper we develop a framework for motion estimation and stereo matching that allows explicit reasoning about occlusion relationships between untextured surface patches. We begin by studying a simplified problem, namely a Mondrian World that consists of uniformly colored rectangles translating with constant velocities at different depths. We present methods for inferring the extent, velocity, and relative depth of each region from a small number of frames, even in the presence of significant occlusion. We then show how the underlying assumptions can be relaxed so that our methods can be used to infer occlusion relationships and depth orderings among untextured surfaces in real-world motion and stereo image sequences.

Temporal hierarchy of the visual perceptive systems in the Mondrian world.
Our earlier psychophysical work has shown that colour and motion are not perceived at the same time, with colour leading motion by about 50-100 ms. In pursuing this work, we thought it would be interesting to use a more complex colour stimulus, one in which the wavelength composition of the light reflected or emitted from surfaces changes continually, without entailing a change in the perceived...
متن کاملMondrian Music Description Language and Sequencer
The Mondrian Project implements musical instruments on top of computer text editors. It consists of a music description language and interactive MIDI sequencers that may be used as editor plugins for both vim and Emacs.
متن کاملThe Mondrian Process
We describe a novel class of distributions, called Mondrian processes, which can be interpreted as probability distributions over kd-tree data structures. Mondrian processes are multidimensional generalizations of Poisson processes and this connection allows us to construct multidimensional generalizations of the stickbreaking process described by Sethuraman (1994), recovering the Dirichlet pro...
متن کاملThe Mondrian Kernel
We introduce the Mondrian kernel, a fast random feature approximation to the Laplace kernel. It is suitable for both batch and online learning, and admits a fast kernel-width-selection procedure as the random features can be re-used efficiently for all kernel widths. The features are constructed by sampling trees via a Mondrian process [Roy and Teh, 2009], and we highlight the connection to Mon...
متن کاملThe Mondrian Process for Machine Learning
This report is concerned with the Mondrian process [1] and its applications in machine learning. The Mondrian process is a guillotine-partition-valued stochastic process that possesses an elegant self-consistency property. The first part of the report uses simple concepts from applied probability to define the Mondrian process and explore its properties. The Mondrian process has been used as th...
